Rock, paper, scissors… Caroline Smalley’s design studio is a mixture of color, textures and patterns from the art world, with a side order of cheerios, army men and found objects from walks with her children in downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. Smalley, a mother of four – ages six to fourteen – artfully blends whimsy and sophistication in her creations at Push the Envelope Correspondence. Her designs, which include custom paper products, stationery, invitations and announcements, are fresh, colorful and unique. And this is no accident. Smalley spent eight years of her career in Los Angeles doing cutting edge design work for record companies and television shows. On the east coast, for the last eight years, she has worked as Art Director for several publications including two award winning full color trade publications.
